Saga Car Insurance
I have just had a quote from the above company and they are charging me an extra £29.00 because 3 years ago when I was insured with them someone drove into me in a carpark. The driver of the van admitted "sneezing" and didn't see me. I paid no money and neither did Saga. When my insurance needed renewing I got a cheaper quote with another company and there was no mention of this accident. I have now got a cheaper quote from Saga but with this excess. Anyone have any thoughts or advise please.

They have neither the time nor the resources to analyse exactly how each accident occurs (in order to find out whether 'defensive driving' could have prevented it), so they're forced to load the policies of all such drivers.

If the other driver was at fault and admitted it he should have paid your excess. The excess is for having a 'claims history'. Having made a claim even for an accident that was not your fault gives you a 'claims history' , in the view of the insurance company it means they think you are more likely to make another claim in the future, hence the excess.
Too late now to claim it back from the other driver, I would point out to Saga that they should have claimed the excess from the other driver 3 years ago and ask them to cancel it.
