Although they deny it, slimming clubs are female oriented so attract more females which in turn encourages it to be female oriented and put off the males. This is mirrored in the slimming magazines which, at best, may sometimes include a token male experience amongst the female interest stuff.
I find it difficult to believe there is a significant difference between the genders when it comes to being an unhealthy weight. Although I accept that the female needs fewer calories per day than the male, so may find it easier to overconsume.
