Cedar Wood

I have been given a cedarwood trinket box that's been in our family for some years. It's in good condition, but the lovely smell it used to have has faded over the years.

Is there any way I can restore the smell? Maybe by rubbing cedar oil into it or somthing? The inside of the box is still 'raw', in that it's never been coated or treated with anything.

I don't know what I'm going to keep in it yet, because I just like it for its own sake, so possible effect on contents isn't an issue.

Try using a very fine grit sandpaper to slightly roughen the enterior of the box. Ask for 200 grit at the DIY store. Often, even old cedar wood has a lot of aroma left, but the pores of the wood become clogged with the natural oil over time. If this doesn't work, cedarwood oil is also avialable at DIY stores. Just rub it into the wood until it disappears... Best of luck!
