Morning Ed. Would it be possible to have an Edit Button? Sometimes...well...quite often, a post has a typo which is not noticed until the post has been posted. I'm sure a lot of people would appreciate it.

Thanks.

I enquired about this a good few years ago.

Question Author
So did I, but I thought I'd bring it up again.
Sorry, I wasn't trying to say I thought of it before you. Just that I have long been I favour of an edit feature - particularly given the way my phone constantly autocorrects.

Thirded.
But there are always excuses made for not having one.
Did you guys not get Ed a blood orange for Xmas, or forgot the birthday card ?
Been discussed many times without success I'm afraid. The problem with an edit facility is that people could alter the meaning of their posts in the middle of the many debates which would lead to chaos (unless there's some clever way to only have it available for say 1 minute after posting). Best just to read your post through before submitting.
Like Lacks Faster says the edit button could be abused, auto correct isn't that much of a problem ... Is it?
Told you guys.
There is no problem. Folk would notice and say, the record of changes would be available to the Ed, and hopefully mods, and it doesn't prevent other sites from having an edit facility.
There is a preview facility on here just like there is on texts and emails- it means reading your post before you press send. What appears on AB is exactly what appears in the box before you press submit as far as I can tell. If it is a long posts you can view it all before you submit by dragging down the little triangle at the bottom right of the Answer Now box.
I can't see a way of getting round the problems ZM mentions so I think it's still a non-starter, unless there was some time limit of say 10 seconds from the original post. But then some would ask for the chance to edit their edits.
"has a typo which is not noticed"
Clearly finding typos in the umpteen proof reads made, doesn't work, so is no solution.
There is no real problem with the request, merely fear.
Bad idea. As has been said, it would be abused.
No fear, just common sense. Only takes seconds to read thru a post before submitting.
Deffo not a problem Tallboy.
>Clearly finding typos in the umpteen proof reads made, doesn't work, so is no solution.

So wouldn't the same problem exist even after you have tried to edit it? Would there then be a chance to edit the edited version?
We go through life speaking to people and can correct any misunderstandings.
The problem here seems to me that people (including me) rush to get a quick answer in and don't read it properly before we submit
Exactly ff.
