Further to last weeks post where I said son and gf's boiler had packed up and they couldn't get part till today - well no engineer turned up and when they've called the estate agent who manages the property they say that they haven't been able to get hold of the owner and until they do they can't order any parts - even if it takes a month! They say owner has to give permission to have it repaired. Is there anything else they can do?? They've stll no hot water or heating.

I think it needs direct action - I'd sit in the Estate Agent's office (preferably with crying baby and irritatingly active toddler), telling everyone who comes in what the problem is ...

They're worried that the owner will just terminate their tenancy if they play up but yes that's what I'd do. Is there a ballpark figure on how long the agent can leave them without hot water?
So much sympathy! We, both OAPs (Oh over 80) have had no reliable heating or hot water for over 6 weeks now - somewhat fed-up, its bee very cold. Apparently, we have simultaneously developed a fault or 2 in the boiler (cost us over £300 so far to have these fixed) but, oops! Now there must be a leak in the pipes underfloor.:( Snag - we have laminate floors downstairs - unimaginable expense (haven't got the funds to put the same down). We're fed-up and cold-enough as it is. Off to a holiday cottage on Sat. for a week and looking forward to warmth. We'll think about it when we get back.

Unfortunately we are owner-occupiers -not very rich ones - and all the L.A. grants to help with heating have ended. Perhaps we should go down to the Council offices wrapped in shawls..............

Back to yours - I second S-dave's advice. A yelling baby is a powerful argument. Good luck (sorry I sounded off, but it hasn't been easily liveable here).
Check the boiler on Youtube, lots of fixits there. Or call out private plummer & dock cost off rent.

What boiler is it?

That's terrible jourdain!! You poor things.

I don't know what boiler actually - all I know is that initial engineer reckons fan has gone
Ask your son which boiler, there are plumbers on here who would help
Refuse to pay the rent, if they turn awkward call in your Local Rag.
The they will have to pay him and try to get the cost back off the landlord.
But then the new plumber will probably also have to order the part needed.
Sorry, but no hot water is not considered an emergency. As said in the the first post you can get by using kettles of hot water to have a bath.
Sorry, somehow the first line of my reply got cut off.
They will have to get their own plumber.>
This is a very bad advert for the privately rented sector.....build more Council Housing !
I'm with TWR.

I would tell them I would not be paying any rent until it is sorted.
