I have pain on swallowing anything, and it feels as if there is a blockage in my oesophagus. I'm in my late 40s and not overweight and have no other conditions. Do I need to see my GP? Thank you.

are you burping more than usual?
My mum had one and would burp quite often.

If in doubt, please go see your GP to put your mind at rest if nothing else
Have you had gastric reflux? Bile may have burnt oesophagus.
I have a mild form of that. More likely to be evident near the end of a meal. I put it down to gastric reflux causing issues. May be coincidence but carbs seem to trigger the discomfort.

Thanks, alba. Not burping, but I was sick last night, although that might have been a dodgy barbecued burger.

Thanks, everyone. Sorry, I didn't see your replies before. I think I'll try some Gaviscon to see if that helps.
I can't better your diagnosis or your suggested treatment and yes, either gastric reflux with or without a hernia.
Monitor the situation for the next 2 weeks and if there is no improvement, then see you GP.
