The point I am making is that we keep being told that events like the State Opening Of Parliament, are needed because they are "traditional" We don't need Parliament to be opened by anybody every 12 months, as the decision not to bother in 2018 shows.

So if lots of the pomp and pageantry can be ditched, at the drop of hat ( or crown ) just what purpose does it still fulfil ?
