The outside edge of my cam belt came off while I was driving home but the cam belt is still intact as far as I can see This car made a horrible noise at first. I pulled the part of the belt off and drove home and the car seemed fine no power loss no noise. Is it still safe to drive to garage?

Dependant on type of engine a snapped fan belt can ruin an engine. Considering the damage on the belt that is there now do you want to risk it.
Cam belt....fan belt....other belt? Cam belts aren't so accessible that you can just pull bits off easily and drive on!
Gingejbee, you raise a good point there that I had not thought of, it usually means at least taking covers off to reach.
My cam belt snapped while I was driving and caused 3k worth of damage to the engine.

....I suspect that it's an "other belt" ie alternator, water-pump. Cam belts need some dismantling to access....hence the big bills for replacement....even if they haven't damaged the engine.
....may be we will find out.....?

Sorry guys. Just seen your suggestions. The car is a Peugeot 206cc the part of belt that came off was on the left hand side at the bottom.
It is very thin strip less than a n inch, and it has ridges on one side.
Yes, safe to drive, it will be the fan belt, make sure you don't take it to KF to change, you will end up wanting a full service.
