Recommend Me A New Printer Please

My current printer (an Epson Stylus Photo PX720WD) is coming to the end of its life, as I've recently encountered the message, "The printer's ink pads are nearing the end of their service life. Please contact Epson support".

Anyway, I'm trying to get hold of the "maintenance reset utility" which will help prolong its life .... although Epson are not being very helpful at the mo.

I'm after a printer that prints on photo paper and also prints on CD's/DVD's.
We don't use the printer too much - very much intermittent usage. It could go a few weeks with no use and then needed for a run of 20-30 copies.
Low cost ink replacement is a must - it doesn't matter if it's non genuine ink .... that's what we use to replace our's at the mo. A quick look on Ebay - I can get 2 lots of 6 ink cartridges for 6 quid ish .... cheap as chips :)

Any suggestions please??

Epson's are a nightmare. Get a Canon.

I've reset Epsons before - one with a piece of software, the other with button presses on the printer.

I would also suggest that you clean the pads. You may find that they are not totally full - the printer has a count and when you've reached a set page count .......

I've been reading posts on AB about printers for around a decade (and I spent several hours per day for about a fortnight researching the best printer for my own needs) and one brand stands out as the best you can get: CANON. (That's also supported by countless reviews in the technical press).

Your requirement for direct printing onto discs limits the range though. In your situation I'd either go for the Canon Pixma MX925 (£1119.99 in Argos) or the Pixma MG7750 (£84.98 on eBuyer: http://www.ebuyer.com/781750-canon-pixma-mg7750-all-in-one-wireless-inkjet-printer-white-version-0596c028 ).

Given the cheaper price and the fact that compatible cartridges for the MG7750 are far more likely to be available at a decent price, I'd almost certainly opt for the MG7750.

Tuvok, thanks for the links. I've already been on that first link and had no joy. I've tried that SSC program, as well as another one (can't remember name) - no success .... and yea printer was connected with USB and not wirelessly.

There are other programs available ..... at a small price and I'm reluctant to pay for something with no guarantee .... especially from websites I've never heard of.

Chris, my missus has been doing a bit of research and also came up with the Canon MX925 and the MG7750, as well as 1 or 2 others ... looks like we'll just be binning the Epson very soon and buying one of the Canon printers :)
