I am waiting in anticipation for my local library to get me the new Janet Evanovich book. Does anyone know how long before the library gets books after the release date.

But the books will then need to be 'processed' i.e. have barcode date label etc stuck in them, which should only take a week or so (of course depending on the backlog of work).
If its ordered after the publication date add another 2 weeks into the equation for delivery.

It depends on the book. The latest Harry Potter was available to most libraries on the day of publication (delivered three or four days in advance), but most, depending on which which supplier the library uses, are available within a couple of weeks.
The reason for the time delay is quite simple - libraries and suppliers need time to service and catalogue the books before they're made available for loan. Now think of the sheer numbers of books the servicing/catalogue offices have to deal with ...
Sometimes, of course, the supplier runs out of stock and we have to wait until more come from the publisher.

*********** I love the Stephanie Plum books and I've just read the new one . Because I always ended up loaning the books to friends we got together and all chip in and buy them as they come out - it's about 9 from Amazon as there's 5 of us it's not too bad.
PS The books fab.
PPS Do you ever 'cast' the film when you're reading them?

There was a thread on here a while ago about casting the characters. I think Sandra Bullock would make an excellent Steph, and the old girl from the golden girls Estelle someone for Grandma Mazur. Beyond that not sure, as with rascal, who the hell could live up to Ranger & Morelli......heaven. Which one is your fav, I can't make up my mind. Ooo ugly actor from Sopranos for pawn broker cousin. I'll go away and think some more.
i know which one you mean rocky.. i could sooooo see him performing an unnatural act with a duck!!
it think you have it spot on with sandra bullock, and the golden girls lady... maybe queen latifah for lula?... but ranger & joe... no idea!!
love those books.. only ones that have made me laugh out loud!!
