in what you used to enjoy, have changed?

I am 73yrs old now, and lots of things I used to like, enjoy, or be excited about seem to have gone, or not that interested.

For example: I was a massive Man Utd fan, being born & brought up near Old Trafford, and my uncle was Dennis Violet, a Utd & England player.
I never missed a game, and even up to 2 years ago, always watched them if it was on TV, and took a big interest in the premier league.
That interest has gone, and I couldn't even name over two of the players.

Many programmes on tv, & movies, mostly crime, which I would never have missed, dosent worry me anymore, and can soon lose interest when they start.

I have always taken an interest in politics, but now, I just think, whoever runs the country, its not going to make a scrap of difference, but still have my views on immigration.
Instead of reading or watching the news, and believing whats said, I become cynical, and think its exaggerated.
Even a good friend of mine said, he has never met anyone so cynical in his life as me!

When I hear people moaning, about how hard they are done by, or complaining about a certain service, especially the NHS, I will tell them they are lucky to have it, as having worked abroad I have experienced, hospitals from hell, and at least they are alive.
In some ways, age can have its advantages I suppose, as when somebody old complains or shouts off, people say, its ok, hes old.

I have lots more changes to tell, but wont bore you.
I am not lonely, have no money problems, and I am very happy with what I have, so why the sudden change in likes, interest?
Has age changed your way of thinking?

My kids call me grumpy old dad & grandkids, grumpy grandad :-),

I echo some of your thoughts TRT - the one thing I am surprised at myself that in my earlier days I adored kids, baby cousins, friends kids, neighbours kids, walked them all, kept them in my mum' house where all the family enjoyed them.

Now I find it difficult to be interested in them. I have to feign interest when grandparents go dolally with the gchildren whom some of them are non-charismatic brats and for photos in those mobile phones - yawn yawn - sorry - that's how I feel.

There are a lot of children playing in the street and it is nice to hear them but looking at most of them there is only one child I like. Sad.
Some of my interests have changed, but many haven't - tastes in Music have remained though I'm always happy to hear new stuff.

My enthusiasm for being around children and mucking in with play hasn't gone yet either.

I'm not cynical, definitely a full glass sort of outlook on life.
Lost interest in sport. When I was younger I played rugby, cricket and table tennis but if I try to watch any on TV all it does is remind me that I miss it.
Well, if you stick with the same interests all your life, you miss out on others. Variety allows you to make the most of the time you have.
pretty much like me, except I do have other interests to take up my time - such as being online. The fact that you're still growing and changing is surely a good sign.

Oi, where did my link go!

Let's try again:

Hi Trt, not really no, apart from clubbing, mixing with beer mouths talking small talk. I still have the same things that interest me, I just don't get to do them as freely. I relish time these days with my granddaughter, and try to fit in the other things when I can.

If you really believe that then you are beyond help!

Well Baldric, if you dont believe that, you need help!

I'm not going to divert the thread into a Political one but I stand by what I said.
I've lost interest now.

Now would have thought you would do something like that Baldric? :-)
When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.

Growing up comes to all, some much later than others :D
It's harder to get excited about football these days, because of the gross overpayment to them and the behaviour of some of them.
I didn't think I'd ever see the day that I couldn't be bothered to go to the pub.

Me too Ummmm.
I think I like my laptop as best likes, spend nearly all day on it, with tv in the background, and my Amazon 'Alexa' to chat too :-)
