Garden Tiger Moth

Wow!......Caught sight of one of these beautiful moths on my lawn this morning.
When it was in flight, the fore wings were the most vivid scarlet I'd ever seen, they seemed to glow in the morning sun, like glowing embers.
When it settled on the grass, the chocolate brown and cream markings just blended into the background. If I hadn't seen it settle, I wouldn't have known it was there.
Makes a nice change from the small drab brown jobs that I usually see, that like to make holes in my clothing!

Amazing looking creatures. But the caterpillars are not exactly gardener friendly.

I used to know the names of all the common butterflies when I was a child. It was because I collected the cards from packets of ....tea...?
I seem to have forgotten all the names now and can't tell a Painted Lady from a Red Admiral. I have to look them up. I took a nice photograph of a Comma butterfly the other day.

I seen a lovely blue butterfly a few weeks ago, walking back from my daughter's house. I just stopped in my tracks as it landed on a flowers bush in a garden. I was just caught up on the moment admiring it and thinking how magically wonderful all butterflies are. Two women happen to pass by looking at me as if I were mad!
