This speech was made in June 1940, as Hitler and the Naaaazis was waging war on us and the rest of Europe, and has beggar all to do with immigration.
With respect, I suggest that you go away and study the facts before making a fool of yourself on here again.

20% of immigrants are unemployed and receiving benefits. Add the black economy on to that (cash in hand in indian restaurants etc...), and I struggle to see what is so great.
I wholeheartedly agree with and support immigration - but the right type of immigration, i.e, those that can bring a benefit to the country and contribute to the cost of running the country. I do not want immigration where they do not contribute and they end up receiving free money from me.

the current plan seems to be to allow EU citizens visa-free entry, as long as they promise not to do any work.

///We are all the product of immigration... good grief even successive monarchs were immigrants......People have been coming here for thousands of years. ///
Oh dear that old chestnut falls from the tree once again, what has the nationality of our monarchs got to do with anything, also noting the fact that we have never had a none white monarch, they have all come from our continent of Europe.
How many non white people did you see in our towns and cities years ago?
Prior to WW2 the only none white person I saw was the sole Turbaned fellow who came door to door selling rugs and carpets.

There's an interesting case that George III's queen, Charlotte, may have had African blook (via a king of Portugal and his Moorish mistress). She's the ancestor of today's royals.

Baldric....Crazy is clearly conflating two entirely different issues. He is first quoting Churchill, with a powerful speech he made against Hitler and the Nazi Party.
Then, he is changing tack altogether and making this thread into a anti-immigrant thread.
If he wants to start a debate about immigration, then that is his right, and if he does, I will be happy to join in.
But whatever our current "problems" associated with immigration, it has beggar all to do with 1940.

// The young Winston Churchill lent his weight to the immigrant cause. In 1904, he wrote a letter to the Times arguing that there was no good reason to abandon "the old tolerant and generous practice of free entry and asylum to which this country has so long adhered and from which it has so greatly gained".
In 1904 I expect there was not too much to worry about as I imagine the number of asylum seekers was probably just a few dozen and they were probably all genuine refugees, not economic migrants.
“People have been coming here for thousands of years.”
Indeed they have. But not at the rate of half a million a year.
“the current plan seems to be to allow EU citizens visa-free entry, as long as they promise not to do any work. I’m not entirely sure this is what Brexiters voted for.”
I have no objection to visa-free travel from Europe to the UK. I did not vote to leave to make Britain an impenetrable island which nobody was allowed to visit. I voted to restore the UK’s ability to determine who does and does not settle and work here. Many countries have visa-free (but not passport free) travel between them and nations they choose. The situation for visitors from the EU will be much the same as it is now – except that I would hope that EU identity cards are no longer accepted as a document for transit. It should be a full passport.
Back to Churchill’s speech, yes it was used to address a somewhat different situation that the one prevailing now. But there is no doubt that mainland Europe is suffering an invasion. Not with guns and bombs but with people who European nations have no intention of repelling or denying settlement once they have landed. The long-term effect will be every bit as profound as if they had taken the continent by force. The invasion is not military but the response needs to be as the emphasis must be on keeping the invaders out not deciding what to do with them once they have landed. Such a (necessary) response cannot be carried out by people sitting at desks in Brussels (or Strasbourg if it happens to be that week of the month) twiddling their thumbs.
