The road was closed so we had a long diversion. When we got there half the car park was taped off with all sorts on the floor. Then we realised. There is a large empty carpet warehouse next door. It had burned down overnight. Round about midnight.
The car park was full of asbestos. There was a rumour years ago that Lidl had bought it to expand but it isn't really practical as this building is on a different level being at least 10 feet higher than Lidl.
The report on line about the fire said it had been started deliberately.
I said to the checkout girl, I bet that was a surprise this morning. She said no it was a disappointment, I thought I would get the day off!
Maybe they didn't know about the asbestos in the building until it burned down.
But yes I agree it does seem odd the store wasn't closed. There was rather a lot of asbestos all over the sealed off car park
I love lidl - I said to one clerk - you're looking a bit orangey today (swarthy and hairy) - and he said - you'll probably need some with your shopping in that case
