we have a real ant problem in our kitchen - obviously we can't pour boiling water all over our house - any other suggestions? ant spray has no effect, it's becoming a joke. ive tried vasaline and talc but not sure how much effect they're having so far
Go down your local hardware shop or supermarket and buy ant stop bait stations, they are little round plastic things that you break off little tabs, put them down on the floor where you see the ants. We had ants a few weeks ago and I had about 4 stationed all round the house. For good measure I also put a line of nippon powder all round the outside of the house. Within a day we didn't have any ants inside the house.
if there js in one place, (this is harsh) try and find where they are coming from, block it off with a piece of soap (from a bar) and squirt washing up liquid all over the place and (kill em) wash em away (wipe em up if poss)

dh pulled off the skirting board to find out where ours were getting in. He squirted some glue stuff in to block it all up & we didn't see any indoors again for years.
I'm told powders containing pyrethrum are supposed to be effective.
We have had them for the last three years (none this year so far). I used the spray called Raid. It has a long straw type thing fitted to the spray which enables you to spray right into skirting boards and tight spaces. It is very good.
Like spudqueen I cannot recommend the Ant Stop Bait Stations too highly. They are not messy or sticky and they have really cleared up our ant problem. For the first few hours you may see a lot more ants because the bait really seems to attract them, but they take it back to their nests and I can honestly say that within 24 hours of putting it down, there wasn't an ant inside the house anywhere.
