If you've got two phono plugs as part of the lead, then plug these into a spare input on your amplifier. Select that input from the front of the amp and that's all there is to it.

eh sorry i dont get you not very good with technology an all
I've got one of them! You plug the 2 phono cables into the back of the hi-fi not the speakers, usually they're red and black and the other into the earphone jack in the ipod!

Does that make sense?

sorry well not rreally because i am putting the black and red plug into the 2 holes were my speakers plug in . they are the only holeso n bakc of my system
the lead won't work with your stereo then
you need a stereo with an 'aux in' socket on the back.
I assume you've got an all-in-one unit.
How old your hi-fi system? If you plug them into where the speakers should be, you're not going to get any sound whatsoever!

My old hi-fi didn't have the necessary connections either so it may be you don't either?

The speakers stay where they are but if you don't have the 2 other connectors for the 'line out' it simply won't work I'm afraid!
Looks like ugly_bob beat me to it and he's correct. It should be the 'aux in' NOT 'line out'!!
You don't plug it into the sockets that the speakers are usually plugged into -- these are the sockets that the hifi outputs sound to.

Your hifi may have some "aux" imput on the back too, probably phono sockets, that you can plug the iPod cable into. Then choose "aux" on your hifi and you should be able to listen.

Finally, if you've unplugged your speakers as you say in your question, how do you expect to be able to hear anything?!!
that'll teach me for keeping questions in a load of tabs. oh well.
