Kitten Poo!
I bought my first kitten at 3 months and was told he was litter trained. At first he used his litter tray but then decided to go other places such as behind the tv and in front of the front room door. After a month or so of using all the pet cleaning products in the world(!) he grew out of pooing everywhere and now always uses his tray. He is know 11 months old. I recently decided to get a new kitten (8 weeks old) and he was also litter trained by the previous owner. Unfortunately he also likes using the carpet as his toilet - and in the same places as my first cat went. The thing is that they both used their litter tray and the carpet. The kitten's litter tray is cleaned out twice a day at the moment cos he is going a lot, so its not because its too dirty to use.
Any ideas on how to stop it or what to use to clean it up and stop him going on the carpet?

I have found cats who prefer to poop in 1 tray & pee in the other for some reason. Also, cats have to stand in a different position to poo, and they put more pressure on their back feet....consequently if they find the litter is not comfy on their feet, they choose the comfort of your nice soft carpet.
In this situation, I'd probably stick down about 4 different trays until the cat re-learns where he should be going. Good luck.
Also, another good trick I've used is to put little bowls of cat bisciuts all over the places where the cat is going to the loo on your carpet....a normal cat will never use a food area as a toilet, it's just not cat etiquette!
i just thought i'd let you know how i trained my cats. Although they are older, my cats we're used to going outside so when i moved into a flat until my house was ready, i had to re-train the cats again.
I put their trays (had to have 3, one for each cat) in the bathroom because it was lino (easy to clean accidents) and then i used cheap compost from supermarket (Asda) for the cat litter. this mean that they felt like they was going outside. Also after each cat had done its business (number 2's!!) i had to scoop them out. Cats dont tend to use a place thats already been used, therefore using elswhere, ie the carpets. Another bonus of using compost is that when ur cat is old enough to go outside then i wont be too much different from what they have been using in the house.
I Hope this helps you a little bit.

i am having anightmare with my kittens too - i have been told to put pepper and orange peel down, but unfortunately this is not working - i am just as stuck as anyone......... one thing that is good for cleaning the carpet it vinegar - i know it stinks at first - but it stops the odour after that ....any more ideas anyone
They seem expensive at first but work well.
One thing I will say is shampooing / clenaing your carpet TOO much can just aggrivate the problem. A cat likes to go to the lOO in an area that smells like it's loo. if you scrub scrub at the carpet it removes thier smell, and they MAY go back there to re-mark it with thier scent. Not to say you shouldnt clean after your cat uses your carpet as a loo!!!!
It's a good suggestion of trying different litter trays and different litter, mine wee in gravely type but poo in worlds best litter (please mention my name {carly knott} if you do order some).
Wood based is another I use too.
Also I was told to ahve one tray per cat plus one spare, some cats don't like sharing trays.
Alos some cats like different types and sizes of tray. ia he one hooded (minus the door cos they dont like it) one large deep and one kitten sized.
It sounds like a lot of trouble to go to but is better than having a mselly stained carpet todeal with!
