Disabled parking bay
I was in Tesco's yesterday, all the Disabled bays were full. Then I seen a man pushing a lady in a wheelchair, stop and put what looked like a note on the screen of a car, and then again on another car. He must have done 5 or 6 cars. I was curious as to what was on the notes so I read one. " You have taken my parking space, would you like to take my disability " makes you think (BTW I never park In disabled space's )

A few weeks ago we where at a major supermarket, could not find a disabled bay, we had to park some distance from main door. While we walking to doors she had an attack (not to serious) but the walk left her in some distress. Just as we got to the disabled bays a man and women got into one of the cars parked. no badge and late 30s and looking very fit. I asked why had they parked there. they said " Well everyone does it " What can I SAY
Tesco's has to be 1 of the worst for people parking in the wrong bay and they do nothing about it. At my local Tesco taxi cars use the disabled or parent and child bays to sit and wait for fares, when confronted (tesco's that is) they just say we monitor our bays and they will only be dropping off - whats the point of a drop off zone then. good for the person putting the stickers on the cars.
Each time you see someone use a space like this (or Mother and child spaces) at your local supermarket when they shouldnt be then report it. I see too many transit vans, boy racers, and 2 seater soft tops who use the wide spaces so they can run to cashpoint or lower risk of damage to their cars.
The supermarkets usually have a system where they take a photo of the offending vehicle and report it to a parkin company who issue 30 fixed penalties (60 if not paid within certain time)
I have been told by a certain supermarket that If all M&B spaces are full that they allow the use of Disabled spaces as they are never full (unless by the aforementioned vans and cars) and because they can park directly outside front of store on the double yellows with no problem. I wont do that though and i havnt seen it happen.
Just make sure that you report the wrongly parked cars and eventually people will get the message

Good on the chap, I see it so many times and I only live in a small town people think that disabled, M&B and double yellow lines are an extension of the car park. A classic example of disabled parking abuse is neighbour of mine who had a car on disability for his wife who has severe MS, but only he never took her out in this car she had to struggle on her own to do the weekly shop and get a taxi home afterwards he would use the car for fishing and his dog, I regularly saw him parking in disabled places in the town while his poor wife was stuck at home so he had less distance to walk to the betting shop! Hence to say they are not married any more as he took up with her carer a couple of doors away. Still this level of abuse should not be tolerated and all things should be reported no matter how trivial they seem maybe people will think twice in the future if they are heavily penalised.
spurslady, to cheer you up, I saw in our paper last week that misuse of the disabled badge is being tightened up on. The new ones have pictures and are supposedly harder to forge. They must be displayed. Wardens have been told to check on the correct use of the badge, whenever it's feasible EG wait for the car owner to return.
please be a bit careful who you target, I am a volunteer driver for 2 social car schemes, the majority of my passengers have mobility problems or visual impairment. some of them have never bothered to apply for blue badges or have left them at home, they need to use disabled parking spaces. I do not qualify for a blue badge but when i am waiting inside a shop for my passenger to finish i use disabled bays. if you feel the need to do this sort of vigilante stuff please check that the car owner is not a volunteer, we usually put a card in our windscreens.
