I don't know this area at all, but it seems a bit strange, given the time of the day when the accident happened !

// There were four men in the third car, and all had been thrown from the vehicle //

Not wearing seatbelts then.

This is a 50mph zone, but cars do not disintegrate at 50mph, so they were clearly speeding judi g by they remains of their car.
At least one of the cars was speeding.
Just read on BBC News(Ceefax),one of the victims was sentenced to 3 YEARS in Jail last November, how was He out and in the crash?

The mists are clearing, as to how this accident happened.
Maybe,Mikey, but how has he done less than a year in jail?
The Audi crossed the central reservation and hit the Taxi coming the other way taking out the other cars in the process. Unless my memory is very lax, and i'd welcome other locals knowledge of the road because I've not driven there very recently, there is a barrier across the road so I'm imagining the Audio being airborn :(

Everhelpful.....don't know I'm afraid.
I know the location well .

Awful , truly awful

Birmingham is undergoing a lot of further development .
I doubt whether that had any connection to the accident , though .
I've driven that road a lot of times but not in the last year very much and I genuinely think they have crash barriers there which you couldn't just drive through. Some do drive like nutters through there :(
Just a raised centre section ( a bit like a footpath ) that runs between East bound and West bound traffic.
the belgrave stretch which crosses Bristol Rd is / was part of the race track they had ( not sure if it still takes place)
but . . . it is also used for midnight races, as a race track

there is some question about whether the carnage was as a result of this ( some of the speeds mentioned are very high)

To be fair, you can see the divider between the Lanes in at least 3 pictures, no sign of a barrier.

Not since 1990, PP.
