There were a few quite creepy bits, although at other times they concentrated mostly on the cop show element. It's going to run to a 2nd series, which is kind of a shame as I hoped it'd be wrapped up in one season but I'm still looking forward to it coming back. Try to catch a repeat or rent it before the next season starts in 2007.
There's a bit of unfairness about the UK crime shows here - people seem to always rate the US ones more highly and while I'm no crime show fan generally, it seems to me people are overlooking the rich history of crime series we have in the UK. Callan, The Sweeney, Morse, Murder Rooms, Bird Of Prey, Cracker, Waking The Dead... I'd watch all of these in preference to the US ones, some of which have their good pionts to be sure but they often seem glitzy and a bit robotic - those UK ones I mentioned are grittier, more quirky and distinctive, and have much deeper characterizations; part of my enjoyment of Waking The Dead was about the interplay of the characters as well as the forensic stuff. In the CSI programmes the characters are a bit faceless and zombie-like and the shows are a bit soapy.
Like you I enjoyed Sea Of Souls, although the first season was a lot better. What about Strange, do you remember that? It was very enjoyable and a shame they cancelled it. I like stuff about demons and devils. My Catholic upbringing perhaps?! Most Haunted is just crap though.

I will try and get to see Life on Mars before the 2nd series starts next year then. Don't get me wrong I too love waking the dead and that actor (his name escapes me!) and absolutely loved Cracker and Taggart but the last 2 haven't had new stuff out in ages so the repeats can be a bit.. well ... repetitive I guess.
I do also think the CSI characters are a bit impersonable if that's the right word, you don't know much about them really and it can be extremely cheesy, especially the King of Cheese himself Horratio from CSI Miami (the redhead with the sunglasses for eyes that has to say everything twice).
I don't go in much for supernatural stuff I must admit and didn't see the programme you mentioned unfortunately.
Cheers for the imput Backdrifter - you may have a point with the whole catholic upbringing thing, it's nice to know that there could evidently be something on the other side!
