Who has the responsibility for the replacement of the exterior, wall mounted (broken) gas meter cabinets.
The service provider, tenant, landlord or property owner ?

Honestly don't know but given it's to protect the meter from the elements and meter readers have keys, I would say the gas/electric supplier.

i.e. the meter box forms part of the property that it's affixed to, so it's up to the property owner to keep it in good repair. (While it's possible that a rental agreement might seek to place responsibility for such repairs upon a tenant, it's unlikely to do so and probably wouldn't stand up in a court of law anyway).

So it appears to be the landlord's responsibility.

Hmmm, a Scottish Gas engineer told me years ago that I couldn't paint the scabby old weather worn plastic cabinet as it belonged to them.

Could have been a jobsworth wind-up merchant I suppose.

I am having a wooden box made to hide my horrible electricity meter box. It's hideous!

I painted both mine with Chestnut Hammerite to match the other external pipes etc. I read my own meters so I rarely get a visit but they`ve never complained. Maybe the person who damaged it should repair it if you know who that was.
