We are having sweet and sour pork with noodles. Last night we had pizza, sounds like we’ve been going through the local takeaways but its all homemade.

Tomorrow will be a plate of full of indulgence, beef fillet with peppercorn sauce, rosti potatoes and a veg medley. Might do a starter or canapés and a pud as I have a bad case of the munchies at the moment!

Oooh I love cheesy mash Mikey - you've put me in the mood (no sausages but will substitute bacon). As you say, real peasant food.

What is peasant food?
Maggie....when I first left home, at age 19, in 1972, I lived in a big house, with 3 other lads of my age. Bangers and Mash was the first thing I ever learned to cook, and we made a huge vat of the stuff, before hitting the Pubs....happy days !

( Spag Bog was the 2nd ! )
I don't know Eccles no doubt a highly trained chef or self confessed foodie will be along shortly to inform us!!
In my day it was a term for some French food but hey what would I know!
I'm tired - my sleep patterns are all over the place for some reason - so I'm just going to make a sarnie with some local ham in a toasted ciabatta roll with some mustard - wash it down with a glass of plonk and then try to have an early night.
Well hello my darlings, long time, no post, just got a bit fed up with it all, almost deactivated myself but decided to stay.
However, a food thread always gets me going, sooo
For us it's sirloin steaks from an m&s meal deal which have been sitting in the freezer, homemade sweet potato wedges, corn on the cob, sprouts..yes indeed, sprouts...and a mild peppercorn sauce (from a packet) followed by a chocolate melty pud thing, also found in the freezer.
He's slurping a whiskey and dry ginger, and I'm truly savouring a Dark and Stormy cocktail (dark rum, fresh lime juice and ginger beer). I've opened a bottle of red to have with the steak but I'm not overly convinced I like it.
Excuse me Eccles for hijacking

Eth please don't go you are truly one of the few nice people on here, I hope you pick up soon xx
Like most things it does have its own Wiki page, with links.

Eth, don’t go, don’t walk out the door and not turn around now anymore! I think I might have mashed two lots of song lyrics there!?!?!?

Don’t be ashamed of your sprouts, I love them but perhaps have the bedroom window open tonight!

I have gone right off conventional baked potatoes but do enjoy a baked sweet potato with lots of butter and pepper.
Well I've been feeling rough all week...coughing, occasional fever, achey...and have neither the will or desire to do anything. Also, all food tastes bad...bitter, too salty, etc. You know you're *off* when even chocolate tastes bad. Though, my tummy is fine, just empty! So I've been choosing whatever is least offensive. I've got a piece of cod...think I can manage that.
just made a huge pot of veg.scotch broth, and Croque monsieur, wth ham and cheese,yummy.....
Thanks ladies, I don't do flumping off which is why I'm still here. Mamys advice is what I've been doing, not had the urge to post of late but it's always nice to see the same lovely foodies on a thread.
And Eccles made me laugh, you nutter!
Timer just pinged, I'm off x
Eth ... I wish I cod do hearts x
Appropriate...but For Funks Sake..this kindle is driving me nuts :-)
Rump steak(very very very well done, home made chips and mushrooms.
Ummmm, you know you're my favourite don't you ;)
Well, one of them anyway.... :o)
You're a nice bunch, don't change.
Well, the tandoori chicken starter; lamb tikka starter; vegetable samosa; mixed kebab starter; chicken dhansak and peshwari naan bread that we had to order because our original choice of curry-house decided not to open today (bah!) were all very tasty.
And quite a bit left over for tomorrow's breakfast, too. :o)
Boiled eggs and soldiers! (We've botheaten out at lunchtime.) Very nice, too. :)
