Bank Does Not Want To Give Me A Receipt For Cash Paid In
28 Answers
I was unexpectedly paid for work today, so I took the cash straight to my bank, Santandar. I did not have my account details, but I had my driving licence with my photo and proof of my address.
They quickly found my account, and said it was no problem paying in the cash, but they would be unable to give me a receipt.
Even though Santandar are a reputable bank, I did not like the idea of handing over a few hundred quid without getting any form of proof, so I declined.
I assume it is some form of security measure.
Would you hand money to someone without getting any proof they had received it from you ?

I only had the account details on a piece of paper, not an official slip. The cashier said 'That's all done for you', but he could have paid the money into his own account for all I knew. I was worried to death until I found out my friend had got the money.
Tora,
It is very rare that I get paid in cash these days, which is why I did not have my bank card with me.
But this kind of thing tends to happen near the end of the financial year when budgets have to be spent. In the past I have been asked to send a March invoice for work I would be doing in a few weeks time in April.
