Tent help !
Hi! I wasn't sure where to post this....It's my friend's birthday soon, and I would like to get him a tent, as he's a rockclimber and often goes for climbing week ends but always has to borrow a tent. I would like to spend no more than 70, but get a good quality, 2-3 season, 1/2 person tent that will resist rain and moderate wind. Is there such a thing? I've looked at climbing forums, and they all seem to mention tents that cost hundreds...Is there anyone here that knows about tents ? Could you tell me if this one for example looks ok ?

It's the one I keep going back to. Many thanks in advance.

It's reasonably lightweight, it's got a small pack size, it's the right shape for windy conditions and, most importantly, the 'hydrostatic head' figure (4000mm) is quite impressive. (i.e. the rain should stay outside the tent, rather than inside!).
I used to prepare teenagers for the Duke of Edinburgh's award scheme and I wouldn't have had any worries about sending them out on the moors with that tent as part of their equipment. (All the same, I still don't claim to be an 'expert'. If an experienced mountaineeer posts here, take his/her advice, not mine).

Hi Maximo
I agree with lafrancaise suggestion. We bought one of these a few months ago and it's fantastic. First time we used it, it was pouring with rain and whilst our fellow campers spent ages putting their tents up we were nice and dry in ours immediately!
Very funny to watch my boyfriend pack it away - you need to have the knack! Already saw one abandoned as the owner probably couldn't pack it away.
But definitely a good buy

Thank you everyone! I'm comforted in my idea of getting him the one in my link, ta Buenchico. The waterproofng is better than most I've seen - and it's a big factor, seeing we live in Northern Ireland ! And thanks for the other link, these look fun, I might even get one for myself ( not too handy with poles and strings, me ! :-) ) x
