My cousin has a child who has been through a bone marrow transplant that hasn't worked. She is now in a position of being relatively stable, but "terminal"
would she have to study?

I knew a 5 year old with terminal cancer. She went to school just in the mornings to see friends and some 'normality'. The school were aware and she could have time off whenever she wanted.
I'm sorry, that's awful news about your cousin's daughter.
^ agree with pixie. Attending school will bring a sense of normality to the child's life. I would say it is important even if not strictly necessary. Terminal diagnosis have been wrong before now. Is there any time span given, is it months or years?
There may be a new treatment or transplant that does work , advances in cancer treatment are rapid and are being made all the time.
Personally in that situation I would take my child out of school and 'home educate' and spend every minute with my child. Children do not belong to the state.
A very sad thing to have to go through, cant imagine having to go through it.
BTW school is NOT compulsory as many people are led to think.
She doesn't have to study but schools are hugely accommodating in these situations. If she wants to cherry pick the best bit of school they will make it happen, if she wants to study at home this can be arranged (I gave home lessons to a terminally ill student because he wanted to study). I'd be amazed if the school didn't want/couldn't assist.
If by study you mean going to school then it would be better, school is not just about study. How old is she, does she know it's terminal, if not it's best to carry on as normal. A good idea would be to talk to the school. Terminal is never a 100% diagnosis.
