When are tax rebates paid out?
5 Answers
I've been paying emergency tax since I started working for a new employer at the start of April, but I've filled in a P46 form, and I've been told it should be sorted out by the end of this month. I've estimated that I should get a rebate of approximately 300, but my Dad has said that rebates are only paid out twice a year in September and March, or something. Is this right? I don't fancy having to wait two months for money that rightfully belongs to me.

Why do you think you are entitled to a rebate? The emergency code is just the normal tax code but not operated cumulatively - so if you start with your employer at the start of the tax year, you should be paying the right amount of tax, unless there is some extra allowance to which you are entitled.
Up until April 1st, I was working for a different employer. I'm doing the same job I was before, and at the same place, but for a new employer, and was paying tax and National Insurance at the rate I should have been. Then, for reasons unknown to me, everything just got messed up, I was paying way too much tax and NI and didn't have a clue why! Anyway, thanks kags and maximo! You've given me hope that I will get my money!
