But President Macron's request for proof is understandable and is, i believe, more of the "you have the proof and may we see it" variety.
Rather than the "well, you've no proof" stance.

Their ambassador to the UN was in no doubt where he stood on this. Unlike the leader of the opposition and his apologists, who I have to say sounded deeply unpatriotic, apart from anything else :-)

You must believe what you believe ymb: it is your right. You won't be surprised to hear me say tho that I personally don't have the smoking gun in my hand :-)
But the comparison you keep making with Tony Blair and Iraqi WMD is wholly erroneous: this is a specific attack. If you'd asked me a while ago has Russia stored or even kept producing its Novichok nerve agents even I would have said probably not. But here is a specific instance of its use. Not "does it exist somewhere in Russia"
