How do I make my new web site appear at the top of search engine results when people type in key words - is the "source" something to do with it??

First you need to ensure that your index keys (meta tags) are both appropriate to your site, used on your site, and the sort of words or phrases that people are actually likely to type when looking for a site like yours. Then you need to submit the site to the search engines. Most search engines also give weighting to the number of sites that link to you, so you need to set up lots of reciprocal links. Keep in mind that everyone wants their site to be number 1, and that just ain't possible!
