I reckon it'd depend on the size of the pieces ;-)

What would that much silver be valued at today ? Silver is likely resistant to inflation, in that unlike currency which devalues, items tend to be worth the same today as they were before.
Probably enough to stand a few rounds in the local, with some left over for a bet or two.
Assuming the "pieces of silver" were Shekels, and the Shekel was .0367 oz of silver. So, 30 would be 10.9 oz of silver. Todays silver price is currently £11.69 per oz. 30 pieces of silver are today worth £127.42.
Joking aside, i have just visited Google where the common census is that the 30 pieces then would have been worth about a month and a half's wages to a labourer. So, taking OG's post as a yardstick, an approximate value would be around £2,300 (ish) based on average labourer's earnings of £18K+ per year.
£147.42 was a lot of dosh 2,000 years ago.
Sorry £127.42.
