A wedding photographer?
11 Answers
Hi all, I have never organised a wedding before, and I am getting married in April. The ceremony is all covered, however I have NO CLUE about the reception and I have no idea about how much it will cost roughly. Unfortunately we don't have a lot of money so we can't throw a lavish and expensive party...anyway, can anyone please tell me how much does a photographer charge for taking pictures at the wedding? just a rough guesstimation? and if anyone could recommend a nice venue in Surrey for the reception - or give me some advice - please feel free to do it! HELP! Thanks

As for the venue, I don't know what sort of reception you are looking for but you may be cutting it a bit fine if you are getting married in April. My daughter is getting married in June and everything has been booked for months. Good luck with your plans and hope everything goes well.
try your local College - the students there are usually pretty decent, and won't charge you the earth as they want the experience for their portfolios...and to build up a good reputation! I was lucky, my brother knew a girl who was studying and worked at Jessops part time. She did ours for 120, including 5 enlarged. We weren't going to bother
as we were on a really tight budget for our wedding in February this year but on the day, my brother came round at 2.00pm (for a 4pm wedding) found out i didn't have a photographer and rang her up!!!!
We had our flowers done by a local nursery too, they only charged 50 for my drop, 2 hand-helds for my bridesmaids and 6 buttonholes. All were red and ivory roses and carnations.

About 500 to 1500 depending on the service they give you. Some are all digital, some still use film. They all offer different packages which vary in price. Check out a few wedding websites to find your local ones and then ask to see their portfolio to get an idea of what they are like.
Where in Surrey are you thinking of. I know a few places and also a good photographer depending on where you are.

My son does weddings etc to earn a living whilst he tries to establish himself as a photo journalist and he does packages anything from 400 up to 2,000 if you have video as well etc, so you would be wise to try out students, good amateurs etc as otherwise you'll spend a small fortune. Enjoy your wedding no matter what:)
Don't stress about photos! Find a cheap deal and make sure other people take plenty of photos as well. After a few weeks, they will be in the back of a cupboard and in a few years you will not want to look at how old fashioned and dated you all appear.
From experience, we look at the various video recording taken at our wedding much more than the photos taken by the pro!
