Should Khan Go?

London Mayor Khan says the terrible increase in violence on the capitals streets is a “national problem”. Isn’t that just deflecting the blame elsewhere? Shouldn’t he do the decent thing and fall on his sword, or get given the boot, ASAP?

No he should not go, he has not done anything that would warrant that.

True stabbings are up and true Khan seems to be more vocal when it comes to removing bikini clad women from adverts but he was elected to be Mayor so really it is up to those voters to lobby him to be more vocal and push the Government.

He really is a fool to himself, gallivanting in the US and making bland statements like "part and parcel" and total obsession with the POTUS will always come back to haunt him. I doubt very much he is happy with the situation which is why I do find it strange we dont see him jumping up and down to get things moving.

I wouldn’t mind seeing the back of him. Any mayor of London who encourages people to demonstrate against a visit by a world leader is utterly irresponsible. He's a trouble maker.

Khan's power of policing is very limited. He can set objectives, which he has done. But he doesn't control operational matters, and he can't sack the commmissioner, who isn't responsible to the mayor. I can't see any reason to dismiss him for not doing things he has no power to do in the first place. (But then I imagine the real reason people want him sacked is because he's Labour.)

As far as I know, the commissioner reports to Rudd.

If he should go for anything it should be his very vocal encouragment and urging for people to protest when Trump arrives.

He's unworthy of trust and should go. To dismiss an alarming increase in violent crime as simply a national problem is akin to shrugging his shoulders and saying, "Yeah, whatever."
