Shop Sale
Hi I have rented a shop for the past 5 years 3 years ago the owner passed away owing me 12.500 pounds his wife said she did not have funds to pay me as her husband had other debts so I stopped paying the rent for 3 years to get some of the money owed to me back 3.500 . A couple of weeks ago she sold the shop .my lease does not end until nov 2018 the new owner has told me that she did not transfer the 500.00 deposit I had paid because I owed her rent obviously I will have to pay the rent to the ne owner is it his responsibility to recover the deposit from her.

I'm a bit confused. You rented a shop from someone, yet they ended up owing you £12,500 ?? After his wife sold the shop (assuming there's equity in the property), wouldn't she now be able to pay you whatever's outstanding? ? Anyway, back to your original question, I'd guess that the answer is no, it's your responsibili ty to recover the deposit.
