just received a quote from my local insurance quoting me £563.

went online from another local who quoted 488

i have to go sorta local so that I can deal with face to face not hearing well on the phone

is this excessive - will try another local on Tuesday to see what they say - I know if I went online to gocompare etc I probably will get cheaper but if I have an accident I would have to do the business on the phone - I just couldn't do it.

Do you have any years no claims bonus? It seems a lot for a regular driver, I pay around £200 but have maximum years no claims.
How much did you pay last year?
depends on where you live, the type and age of your car, your age and so on.
Is there a broker's office such as Swinton near you?
The cost of your insurance varies with the make and model of car, where you keep it, its age, your annual mileage, your job, whether you use it for commuting, your driving record and where you live, so it's impossible to comment on your quote without knowing those details. "Where you live" means down to the postcode, not just the town name. All you can do is to get several quotes - do it online.

Prudie I claimed in 2011 - old car - new car is dec 2011 - mileage is 16,000 Yes I know depends totally on the individual. Every year I just accept the insurance but thought it excessive this time so will try and shop around locally of course.

thanks BHG - it is not worth my while to go online as if I had an accident - you need to phone England and i don't understand the accents. I guess I will have to pay more for the local services.

Hopkirk - there seems to be a Swinton near me - are they good. I'll give them a buzz on the Tuesday.
Conne, in your position I would investigate quotes online. If the difference between your quote and others is huge I would go for the best I could get from a reliable company.

Then, should you ever need to deal with them by phone, you could have a trusted friend/relative do it for you. You would only need to speak to confirm that you are nominating this person to deal with this on your behalf.....x
Conne .. I use Swinton..they will look for the best deal for you...
I'd agree with going online for quotes, I always do, there are lots to try but I use confused.com which is one of the biggest and best known.

gness I know what you mean in getting friends etc but have had them (friends and neighbours) deal with loads of stuff before and they're all busy particularly during the day and I feel I keep them back - don't get me wrong they have been really good but I am calling it a day in asking them any more (the one friend who had time and patience etc died last Christmas).
You don't have to actually do the insurance online and its always going to cost you a bit more to go through a local broker but its worth IMO looking online to get a feel for what you should be paying.

ok Woofgang - when I come back from putting Bell on ding dong for friend - will peruse online.

thanks all for your comments
Online insurance quotes are exactly that. You type in your details and get the quotes. No talking involved.

I know EDDIE - but there is talking involved if there is an accident per se.
I've been with the same insurance company for a number of years and each year the quote is about £90 more than the previous year...
I look online for lower quotes...phone my company and ask them to match or come close...
I don't know what's happening but each year they come back with not only a lower quote than others.....but lower than I paid them the year before...
Another few years and they'll be paying me to stay with them..... :-)

good idea Gness cos I did phone the original broker and the girl said oh call in and we'll see what we can do - so will have some online quotes and actually print them out and we'll take it from there.
Worth using a local broker in your case.

You can go in and arrange it face to face, and hopefully they would also assist if you have to make a claim.
there is always a risk you will have to talk to someone on the phone. If you had an accident this evening, your local branch would not be open till tues
