Jackdaw mentioned on another thread that he wouldn't dream of attending a funeral unless he was attired in a dark suit.
I'm 52 soon and never owned a suit in my life.
Any other male here that has never owned a suit? It does seem to be the thing in society that males are expected to have a suit even if only for occasions like funerals, job interviews, weddings etc.

I'm about ages with you, I have never had a suit and most likely never will. I would just look like a scruffy **** in a suit
I can never remember not having a suit, even as a small boy in short trousers. I currently have three, all several years old, but I would never dream of going to an official function (wedding, funeral etc) not wearing one.
Don't have one that fits any more. But interviews call for them anyway so I'd suspect most have one for that, and specific social events.
As to attending a funeral, I think as long as you turn up you are being respectful.
Lots of people come to funerals having come to them within their working day, so will be wearing their working clothes, be they suits or overalls.
It's the being there that matters.
Just my thoughts.
My other half has about half a dozen, but he's sometimes a clothes horse and sometimes gets to keep the clothes, but I think there's a place for suits and I think sometimes it's nice to see him in them, but it's not a necessity or a lack of respect to someone if you don't wear one. That being said my Irish family's funerals look like something out of The Godfather, EVERYONE is dressed a la Penguin and god help you if you aren't fully suited and booted. x
I believe in wearing a suit for a funeral. But that is just me. The important thing is that you will be there to pay your respects to someone who meant something to you. I've been impressed at one or two funerals by people who've nipped out of work in their work clothes to pay their respects.

What do call a scouser in a suit?
The accused :-)
People look better and more at ease when they are comfortable in what they are wearing.
I've owned a suit but never felt comfortable wearing it. even though complemented with 'dashing' how I looked I much prefer the casual look.
