Automatic Transmission

I am considering the purchase of a Nissan Qashqai and note that their automatic transmission is described as "Xtronic Automatic Transmission". In what way is this different to a traditional automatic gear box and would the average driver be aware of any difference when driving? Any comments regarding any differences would be appreciated.

As far as I'm aware, it's different to a traditional automatic. When the gear changes in an automatic, you'll feel it change gear; whereas in a continuously variable transmission, the gear change is seamless, insofar as it's constantly changing the gear ratios to give you the best performance and fuel economy.
