The court says not but I wonder if the savage was in effect directly responsible for his death. Devastating case.

No, to be fair, she's a despicable scumbag that pre-meditated to deliberately and permanently disfigure another person with sulphuric acid.

I am in agreement with the majority of posters, you can't prosecute someone because their actions may have lead to a victim taking his or her life.

This is another example where we have to accept the dispassionate approach of the application of the law, and try and keep the completely understandable emotions out of it.

Not murder, no, but worthy of life behind bars nevertheless. She robbed him of his life even if she didn't take it directly.

Unless the law has changed death must occur within a year and a day of the offence for a murder charge to be brought.

Ignore my last post, apparently the law was changed in 1996.

The charge of murder was brought because the act could be seen as 'significantly contributing to his death'. The jury had to decide if death could have been anticipated or intended as an outcome of the act of throwing the acid.
This happened where I live, an awful case. I hope the sentencing can reflect the incredible trauma she caused.

I can see the reason for it not being murder but as her actions led to his death then I can certainly see it being manslaughter. No-one throws acid with a good intention.
