Trump And Kim - It’S Off
Personally, I’m saddened by this, as it could’ve been a great step forward for US/North Korean relations.
But for some reason, I never really believed it was going to happen anyway.

On the other hand the N Koreans have continued to disable their underground complex. So I think this is not back to square one. Rather a reality check fir those who think Trump’s is a brave new style of diplomacy

This was released by the White House earlier today:

Sometimes peace requires sitting down at the table with complete ***. A missed opportunity.
It was a shame, for the last couple of months it seemed that Trump was generally doing the right things to get this moving. For example, last week John Bolton blasted off about following the "Libya model" (denuclearisation, peace, Civil War, country's leader killed in a ditch somewhere), and Trump had seemed determined to press on regardless, rebuking Bolton's claims sharply. Now Pence says the same thing as Bolton, North Korea reacts badly again... is it just that Trump couldn't bring himself to rebuke Pence in turn?
The letter's not exactly brilliant either, waving his big arsenal in front of the world isn't exactly going to ease tensions. And it's pretty clear that this came as a massive surprise to the South Koreans, who have worked very hard to bring this about.
I don't think this would have been Trump's Munich Agreement had he proceeded. It looked like the North Koreans were taking the prospects of peace fairly seriously, although of course one always has to be incredibly cynical about whatever they do.

I certainly can appreciate that reaction, but on the other hand I thought it was something the right were rather good at, usually, to appreciate that sometimes you have to negotiate with your enemies. Kim Jong-Un is leader of a brutal regime, the horrors of which I scarcely can begin to imagine. But there are, broadly speaking, three things to do about such regimes: ignore them, fight them, or make deals with them. The first just lets the evil and horror fester; the second is bloody, and with no real guarantee of victory; the third is morally repugnant, but offers at least some chances of bringing longer-term peace, stability, and even freedom in time. That is the one that Trump was, up until today, apparently pursuing enthusiastically, and -- as I noted -- not entirely without success, either. It even looked like he was doing the right things in order to bring the negotiations ahead. The South Korean president -- who has played a huge part in this -- credited Trump for his role in making the talks possible: now that Trump has walked away from those talks, the South Koreans are left scratching their heads, as are we all.
This isn't about criticising Trump and praising Kim. Realistically, though, we weren't going to get the perfect resolution to the crisis this time, but it looked like massive steps could be made.
As with Korea, as with Iran, as with the Paris Climate deal -- Trump constantly is making the mistake of discarding deals that, while far from perfect, are steps in the right direction. It leaves his allies reeling, his enemies emboldened, and his country's reputation for diplomacy in tatters.

All part of the 'game'.
It is a shame The Donald is not meeting KJU but to be honest for me things were moving a bit too fast. Still I have not seen a reason KJU has suddenly changed tack and I think it is wise to treat him with caution.
By doing this the US is showing it cannot be used for political propaganda and that KJU must be serious (no more toys out the pram like the other week) to get any reprieve on sanctions etc.

I have no idea what's going on with Trump or North Korea or what either of them actually want, and I'm not sure they do either. It's like watching a couple of 10 yr old girls falling out, and making up and falling out again.
Did anyone see the footage of NK destroying it's 'secret nuclear test facility'? It was like something out of a low budget movie. A few sheds and a tunnel being extravagantly blow to smithereens. I'm not sure but I think the tunnel had big a sign saying 'Secret nuclear test facility' above it.
