I see ITV have already got a double box ticker in their World Cup line-up. How pathetic is this nation and its broadcasters now?

The BBC have Alex Scott, horror of horrors. But maybe she’s ok as she has a British sounding name
I'd rather listen to Ms Aluko (who seemed lucid, knowledgeable and enthusiastic) than some of the superannuated old winkers [sp?] that usually get wheeled out for ITV on the rare occasion they actually have some football to show.
Much more interesting than the ever-boring Lawro. He'd talk a glass eye to sleep.
Have the boys noticed the discipline in the women's game

Why shouldn't they have female pundits, I know plenty of women who know a great deal about football and cringe when the aging wafflemonsters go on and on
Every game we watch goes on 30 seconds before kick off ...no pundits talking tripe for 30 mins for us!
Gawd, what a (nother) thread :/
But, I don’t understand. If women are playing football, who is doing the washing up?
I guess AB's becoming a safe space for all manner of bigotry, huh?
Seems to be Jim :/
No jim and kvalidir people are entitled to their view just as you are - and without the name calling and pious attitude.

Just so happens in this case I think they are wrong. Sometimes 'box ticking' will occur simply becasue there is a person well qualified for the job that so happens to tick the boxes, as I think has happened here.

Far better then bloody Linekar anyway.
I never said they weren't entitled to their views. It's just that their views are bigoted. And that's the view that *I'm* entitled to :)
Bigoted in your view and the way you said it was pious.

As you well know.
Sometimes it’s hard not to sound pious
"I'm/he's entitled to my/his opinion" is one of the biggest cliches out there. It's utterly meaningless, too. Entitlement to an opinion is never really up for debate. But if the opinion is completely misguided, then people have a right, and perhaps even a responsibility, to say so.

This thread started with an example of an opinion that was utterly crap, and I don't think anyone should shy away from saying so. Since it's also evidently based on bigotry (ie, women and black people only get jobs from box-ticking rather than talent), I don't think anyone should shy away from saying *that* either.

Merely disagreeing with the opinion affords it a validity that it simply doesn't deserve.
