Intelligent Design

More a question for Theland than anyone else (or any other literalist Bible believer)
Can you explain to me why you believe that the universe is intelligently designed?
In fact, lets narrow it down a bit and just say Earth. (when I say 'narrow it down a bit', I actually mean considerably)
*The Earth has been home to over 99% of (now) extinct species of life forms.
*Life has evolved on this planet to eat other life forms
*Parasites live of other beings
*Cancer cells mutate indiscriminately (children, animals, Christians, atheists)
*Volcanos, earthquakes, tidal waves, etc don't discriminate whom they destroy
I could go on but I won't. But please tell me why you think that there is a divine intelligence in orchestrating the above. If its intelligent then its certainly malevolent.

Note that the article says,
"There is no doubt that the theory of evolution is handsomely supported by the fossil records and has considerable explanatory powers."
However the two conjectures raised about Evolution not being the only driving force do not stand up to scrutiny.
"One could argue that it is this law of striving complexity that drove matter towards the emergence of increasingly complex molecules out of the basic elements followed by the emergence of the building blocks necessary for the appearance of a first selfreplicating entity."
Wrong. The emergence of more complex atoms and molecules is simply the consequence of Quantum Physics operating with the fundamental constants that happen to be those in our Universe. There is no need for a "driving force" toward complexity.
"At the pre-biotic stage of evolution, Darwinian competition cannot, by definition, assist the evolution process. Natural selection requires that primitive life is already there for the process to begin."
Wrong. Selection can apply to abiotic chemical reactions involving self replicating catalysts.
