It seems there is overwhelming evidence that speaking the truth, on such matters as Brexit, Islamism, sexual grooming gangs to name just a few, can with a bit of disingenuous manipulation, be interpreted as hate speech.

This is scary stuff.

The extremely irritating politically correct Yvette Cooper would appear to be a high priestess of this dangerous insanity.

What do you think?

>To simply question, why MLK and not Churchill? Why Stephen Lawrence and not Holly and Jessica? is not racist.

I don't remember anyone saying it was racist, but the thread was removed.

I'm not wanting to get involved in the debate because it goes nowhere- i'm just querying the point you make
FF - did you read some of the late answers on that thread. There were accusations of racism being flung all over the place. The Ed has posted a thread denouncing intolerance, homophobia, racism, etc.

I didn't see any racism, only outpourings of righteous indignation and one poster telling others to "get screwed."

It was not a pretty picture.
The person who said that was a lone-voice speaking out against a torrent of invective aimed at him and his race.... 'go home to your father's country'.....'now we see your agenda'....'you are like a typical black man with a chip on your shoulder'.

It was shameful to read...
I agree that was some uncalled for stuff. I saw most posts. I don't remember anyone saying it was racist "To simply question, why MLK and not Churchill? Why Stephen Lawrence and not Holly and Jessica? "
I think most people felt the Windrush Day was not a good idea - even sp said so i recall.
Anyway, perhaps best to not dwell on a removed thread
I genuinely never saw those comments, JTH. I was out for a couple of hours and when I got back I only read the most recent posts.

Agreed - not nice things to post.
‘This is scary stuff’
...

You can say that again :-)
It's sad that anger seeps in sometimes, and of course that affects and infests a whole thread.

Hence Ed's 'sticky' at the head of this topic.
NoM Don't despair. Teach him the values you feel to be right and he will learn to think for himself and judge, with any luck (afraid luck always enters into it at some point). Maybe he will grow up to be able to change things a bit. :)
To dislike someone/something is not the same as hating him/it. This word 'hate' has been hijacked by special interest groups to condemn anyone who dares to disapprov of them or their activities. I don't particularly like carrots but I don't 'hate'them. It is a gross misuse of our language. To say that if you don't like something you must hate it is absurd.

It's difficult sometimes to get a decent answer from those who prefer to muddy the waters with large doses of righteous indignation. Or P.C. in todays parlance.
