i know i cant take the dinar into or out of tunisia so whats the best form of currency to take i-e euros, dollars or sterling in cash or travellers cheques Thanks
Doesn't make a whole heap of difference. In Tunisia the exchange rate is fixed daily by central government so you'll get the same rate wherever and however you change money. I usually take a small amount of Sterling and then use ATMs. Incidentally, since about 1997 you've been able to import and export Tunisian dinars - at least I've been able to get them from my local Post Office!
thanks Narolines that was quick
but about the post office thing i tried two main post office with no luck. and i was told you could get searched at the airport as you leave
Maybe the rules have changed again, then - I haven't been to Tunisia for a year or two. It certainly used to be true that you couldn't buy dinars until you arrived in the country, then suddenly you could. Perhaps you can't again now.
there's not much cause to export them; where else would you use them? But I've got a few left over from previous trips - just the usual unspent money, not millions - and nobody's ever even thought of searching me. I usually just give them to charity. Anyway, sterling is okay. Dollars are welcome anywhere, but it would presumably mean changing money twice if you're in the sterling area.
I went there 2 years ago and you were not allowed to take Dinars into or out of the country. The best thing to do is take sterling travellers cheques and then change your money when you get there.
