Can anyone recommend a good book which would feature the elements of style needed when writing a novel for publication? What I am really after is one with a good section on formatting a manuscript. I would really appreciate any help on this one, thank you.

thanks very much for the recommendation, I actually bought the other one but I shall invest in this one as well.
I really love The Complete Idiots Guide to Creative Writing. It's colloquial, sure, but also very informative.

Have either of you ever seen a copy of the 'Chicago Book of Style'?
Nope. It sounds quite good.
you could do worse than giving stephen king's On Writing a read. it gives a breakdown of how he developed his style, how he broke into the biz, how you go about getting better at writing and suggested further reading.

I came across the 'Chicago Book of Style' when I was trawling through amazon.co.uk, it came with a highly recommended on the cover apparently which is something I always take under advisement. What I really want is a good reference book that I can keep, so I'm having a look at some of the recommendations I've been given. Thanks very much folks.
