Best Steak EVER!!
29 Answers
Some of you will find this hard to believe but the BEST steak you will ever have is available...in Lidl's supermarket! It's frozen, vacuum sealed, south american rump steak but it is without doubt the BEST steak I have ever had! I have been buying it for over a year now, it used to be 1.50 for 2 steaks but now it is 3 something (shame) still...it is thick and juicy and you can cook it really savagely, until it looks overdone on the outside but it is beautiful and rare in the middle...soooooo tender! Has anyone else discovered this wonderful steak?

I hate fat through steak which is why I don't like sirloin but this looks really, really lean and thicker than I thought it would be. Will let you know how I get on after the weekend, canny wait to eat it!
Just one question Chappers, if I buy fillet I usually make it butterfly style, do you think I can still do this with the rump steak as I don't like it pink, prefer it medium and if I cook it whole it could be a bit too rare for me??
I usually make a sauce with mushrooms, red pepper chopped finely, flombe in brandy and add double cream along with my sliced creamy potatoes with parmesan cheese and milk baked in the oven. You should try them some time, I can give you the receipe - they are pefect with steak in that sauce.

Ok Chappers, here it is (Serves 2 - good portion)
Take 2 baking potatoes, peel and slice into thin circles. Take 2 garlic cloves, peel, crush and chop. Take about half a red onion and remove the outside skin and chop finely.
Take a deep oven proof dish (4-5" deep) add 1/4 t-spoon knobs of butter in ever quarter around the dish and start layering your pototoes. After every layer of potatoes, add salt first then pepper, then onion then garlic and continue to layer until the ingredients are finished. Fill up the dish with milk (semi skimmed or full fat, depends if you watch your figure) but fill up at the side of the dish to keep all the salt and pepper in place rather than all over the potatoes and cook uncovered in a mircrowave for 25 mins. Take out the mircowave, add a little grated parmesan cheese (fresh or the other stuff) (THE CHEESE IS OPTIONAL) and cook in a pre-heated oven at 180-200 for 15-20 mins until golden brown - enjoy!
Let me know if you liked them, they are my fav side, I'd have them with everything!
