It Can Be Fun Playing Along With Scammers.
15 Answers
About 20minutes ago the telephone rang and my wife answered it. The caller was an Asiatic lady on a scam set-up and Gretel is well capable of dealing with such. She spoke for a while to the 'lady' and then said " I'll hand you over to my husband because it's his Computer".
The caller then explained to me that she was speaking on behalf of Microsoft's Windows section and messages were being received that there was a very dangerous virus in my computer which needed to be removed as quickly as possible.
Gretel had already told the caller that the Computer was in a room adjoining our lounge and that she would switch it on and a three way conversation might be possible. She then sat down in the lounge after passing the telephone to me.
It was great fun with me shouting to Gretal such things as, "Is the Computer switched on" ... "Ok; now press on the keyboard 'Ctrl' with the Windows key alongside , together with the letter R." " What message is now on Screen" ..... Ultimately, Reply from Gretel was " Four big letters S C A M" I conveyed that to the Scammer.
The caller asked me to hold-on for a moment (Perhaps to consult her Supervisor) then after about 30secs the line went dead".
Hans.

The ones I enjoy toying with are those who inquire about the recent car crash I've been involved in. When I've nothing on I keep them on the hook for as long as I can, engaging with enthusiasm when they tell me they can help me with my personal injury claim. When they finally tire and realise that I am playing a game they usually tell me to go forth and multiply (i.e. suggesting that I engage in sex and travel).
I take the view that very minute they spend on the phone to me is a minute less they have to bother somebody else.

That is so mean, Hans! But isn't it fun....my two best were pretending to one that when he said....computer....I was hearing cooker....and how impressed I was that he not only knew my cooker was broken but for an over the phone fee he could fix it from where he was...and yes, he tried it on by saying when I paid my cooker would be fixed from afar....
The second I pretended we were on a crossed line with my brother discussing who should treat our invalid mother's piles....not me because I was doing the bunions already....I had quite a row with my non existent brother with the scammer chipping in til he got frustrated and shouted at me..... x

I did read one report that the scammers kept the person talking and then edited the conversation so that the victim appeared to agree to the offer. True or not I don't know so carry on having fun but try not to use the word yes in your conversation or any thing else that might mean to agree. I used to use the totally inaccurate words of a welsh song that I vaguely remember from school.
I am just curious to know what % fall for these scams. It can't be many, surely, certainly not enough to make their business worthwhile. Another thing to beware of is rogue websites, especially banks. When I bought my new laptop I had to reinstall my online banking. It refused to accept my login details, but made the mistake of asking for my PIN
