I'll go with no deal rather than the "in all but name" - "deal" from Treason May.

'Commerce has had two years to prepare'

How can a company prepare if it doesn't know what it is preparing for?
Risk assessment. Worst case scenarios. Etc., etc., etc..
And, in commercial terms, what would the 'worst case' involve? Getting rid of 25% of the workforce because you predict a downturn in business, which then turns out to not be the case, maybe?
What is 'worst case' in your view (or did you not think that far)?
Yes Zacs. Simply find out how campanies in "normal" countries cope when dealing with EU nations, when their own country has no trading agreement with the EU. Many nations do it and many of them do so very successfully. Sitting on your hands and wailing that it's all too difficult is not the way to go.
You refer to a possible reaction to a worst case scenario, not the scenario itself. If shedding 25% of the workforce is the decision made then the board/management have confirmed their lack of ability. That's the response when they have already failed and are now 'fire fighting'.
"Getting rid of 25% of the workforce

Are you an adviser to Carney, Osborne & Hammond ?

Most companies HAVE been working towards different options.

Unfortunately for many May will sell them out and they will still be sunk under EU red tape.
I am at the stage where I believe Guido Fawkes and his compadres were the good guys! :-)
' Simply find out how campanies(sp) in "normal" countries cope when dealing with EU nations' That is in no way comparable to trying to anticipate the effect of Brexit (no deal or not) on a company which resides in a member state which is leaving. Come on NJ, you're better than that.

OG, 'You refer to a possible reaction to a worst case scenario' erm, yes i did that because you said that's what a company should do. 'not the scenario itself' erm (again).....I can't do that because no one knows what the scenario is, which was my whole point. I'm really not sure what the remainder of your post means.

YMB 'Most companies HAVE been working towards different options'. Have they, any examples?
ZM //YMB 'Most companies HAVE been working towards different options'. Have they, any examples//
I have noticed several companies featured in news broadcasts who have made such provisions.Sorry that I cannot recall their names, they were small businesses not international conglomerates.
"YMB 'Most companies HAVE been working towards different options'. Have they, any examples?"

Can only personally vouch for two I have worked.

Obviously cant name them but they are Banks, one massive, one small.
I'll take that as a 'No' then. When you said 'most' companies I thought there would be dozens of examples kicking around. Silly me.
Anyway, going on the examples of the two you know of, what preparations have they made?
I don't know of any examples of preparations that any companies have made apart from JD Wetherspoons. Their MD, Tim Martin, has already begun sourcing products from within the UK and outside the EU to replace those EU products he plans to ditch. I only know that because I am a JDW shareholder and read the releases they provide to investors.

I should have thought that the most straightforward way to deal with a Brexit accompanied by no deal is to assume that all the trading facilities currently provided as part of our EU membership will cease. That way business owners can only be pleasantly surprised if that doesn't happen. it shouldn't be too difficult to find out what that would mean to them individually and, after all, business owners are paid to run their businesses. Anticipating and handling change is part of that task. They will have had almost three years to prepare for next March and it is hardly anybody else's fault if they have sat back and done nothing during that time.
Having an abortion because the child is a girl is as low as you can can get...and imo is indefensible.
Don't know how the bloody hell I'm on this thread...
