I agree with Labour on this. In fact I don't know why anyone would not want to wait until the child is born to see what sex it is. I enjoyed the uncertainty with mine, we had boys and girls names ready etc, I stood ready with the decoration materials for the room etc.

I believe most who do this do it because of their culture.

Chinese spouses do not like giving birth to girls. :-(

Did you have any genetic screen though snags, Materniti21 etc, to test for downs syndrome etc? The gender test is bundled in with that, and those tests seem to be sold as necessary whether you want them or not :(

Sadly, there are very few surprises nowadays, finding out the birth at delivery is just magical. Well done Mr mrs. Snags, good luck .

kvalidir: we had a 'combined test': scan analysis along with a blood test. The results for Down's Syndrome, Edward'/Patau Syndrome were very low so we didn't proceed with the diagnostic test, which can include finding out the sex.

I was just too excited, Snags. If I had another I'd probably manage to wait until the 20 week scan before finding out the sex. Hypothetical of course - I don't intend to ever have another pregnancy.

I saw this question earlier today and I’m still wondering.....
Isn’t the original question a bit like asking ‘should the internal combustion engine be available?’ I.e. rather too late.

I think to know very early say 11 or 12 weeks is nerve wracking, it makes the babes more like people and less like an anonymous entity, so I think the upset if things went wrong might be really amplified, but I can see why some people would like to know.x

I'd love one, Snags, but I couldn't cope with another pregnancy. I was anaemic throughout and hardly had the strength to climb the stairs. I'd have to have another C-section too because of cord prolapse last time.

And I'm nearly 42...
