Doesn't confuse me. Gender to me will always mean male or female. All this nonsense about choosing what you want to be is, quite frankly, barmy. It is only a short step from wanting to be a Jack Russell.

Sparkly, Sex is male or female. It is binary.
Gender is whatever is stereotypically masculine or feminine. It is changeable in everyone.
