Why Do People Watch Soaps

I just don't get it...
I don't currently own a tv but even when I did, I just NEVER understood the reason WHY people (mainly women) got so involved in the lives of fictional characters?...
Please enlighten me.

Not my cup of tea, spend most of my time looking for interesting documentaries... round here we get enough real life ... during the last year within about a half mile radius, couple of murders, stabbings, a couple of large dysfunctional families and sundry odd bods living in my block. Bit of a spectator sport really.

In the evening time when I've worked all day, cooked dinner and all the other bits i just want to sit down and relax with something not too taxing.

I never watch any of them. Some people like them.

cos we are easily amused and need something to distract us from real life travails at times..somehow watching the strife on telly makes our lives seem not so bad ..lol

Only watch Corrie and I absolutely love it, friends know not to ring me when Corrie is on ! Don't know why I love it so much, just know that I do and don't feel the need to dissect it. On tonight - yay!
