period while on holiday

I am going on holiday next month and my period will start on the second day, I am not on the pill does anyone know if there is a way to stop it for a week. I would have been fine but I was a week late a couple of months ago and mucked it all up, not normally late.

Really don't want it on holiday.

You know, sometimes it's really difficult to tell what tone an answer has been posted? What you thought of as a jokey post may read to others as harsh, picky etc... And the same with replies too. In no way were my posts meant to upset you, just to explain that some people slag medical questions off when they shouldn't give the nature of this section of the site. my daughter got the pill in question last thursday, ready to go away on friday. its a hormone one, you take it 3 days before period is due. she got 10 days supply.

toecrusher, can i ask were they ok about giving it? sometimes i feel, my doc is a bit wary of giving anything out!!!!

Ask your GP to prescribe Norethisterone, Liza. Have a fab holiday x

I didnt go with her (said i didnt need to) but she said he was absolutely fine, gave her an explaination about how to use it etc, told her to enjoy her holiday. Obviously dont know your circumstances, but my daughter is 17 and its her 1st holiday away without parents!!! Must add, we have a brilliant GP. She has phoned and txt several times and is having a great time.

hiya toecrusher, thanks, i am 29 so shouldnt have too much trouble but he is a bit funny about giving things out. i have an appointment on thursday so i will ask then...thanks xx

can you still take this if you are on the regular pill. They say if you carry on taking it without the 7 day break then you wont have a period but it doesnt always work. I have never heard of a special pill for this purpose only.

Cheers for all the replies, even Crete, though I have to say I was a bit put out to get your reply seconds after I posted mine, but I decided each to their own.
Anyway was at the doctors today and he gave me Norethisterone and said they have lots of women asking for it at this time of year.
So I can now look forward to my hols
