Rock Hard Sugar
24 Answers
Courtesy of my local foodbank, i received a kilo bag of rock hard sugar.
Its one big solid lump.
Other than using it as a doorstop, how can i get it to its normal granulated state?

If you have a microwave, put it in at 15 second intervals at low heat, as it softens, remove the softened bits and put it in your sugar bowl of canister and just keep doing this until the end then put final few granules into a well earned mug of coffee, it's as tedious as photocopying but it works

Left to their own devices, some would probably donate the cheapest food imaginable...tinned meatballs, or macaroni...or even out of date food. Sorry if I sound cynical. But depending on the food bank users level of need, a treat, or something that appears 'unnecessary' may make a difference to enjoying what they've recieved or creating a bit of variety in meals. Maybe that bag of sugar will allow a needy parent to bake.
Giving the needy things that are not 'needed' does not mean things are better than what's been reported regarding UC and the growing numbers of those in need.
We could also just give them bread and water I suppose.

I have a little terracotta brick in a teddy bear shape that I got from Lakeland a few years ago it was made just for this sort pf problem to keep brown sugar soft
I don,t use sugar except for baking and the idea is that you wet the thing and put it on top of your sugar in its canister to stop it going hard. it does work so you could try a small terracotta tile or something similar like a clean broken bit of plant pot

When i donate to the foodbank i do donate necesseties..... however i thought of wee kiddies and put in jelly cubes to make jelly & custard powder & straws that make milkshakes etc because these were treats when I was little.
Just imagined them making a bowl of jelly and keeping checking has it set yet like I did!!
